Tahoma 31 is a dense, fine-bladed Bermuda grass with a rich, dark green appearance. It was developed for improved winter survival, drought resistance, water efficiency and recovery from regular foot traffic.

Like other Bermuda grasses, it grows actively during warm weather and turns tan or brown after the first hard frost. Tahoma 31 typically stays green later in fall and returns from dormancy earlier in spring than many other Bermuda varieties.

This section shows how the plant will fit into your yard and into your life.

Seasonal Interest:

Dark green turf from late spring through fall, followed by a tan dormant appearance during winter

Landscape Uses:

Residential lawns, high-traffic yards, commercial properties, athletic areas and other sunny spaces requiring durable turf

Allergy Considerations:

Moderate to high. Bermuda grass produces wind-carried pollen that may affect people with grass allergies. Regular mowing can help limit the development of pollen-producing seed heads.

Kid/Pet Safety:

Generally considered a low-concern surface for normal outdoor play. Keep children and pets off the lawn during fertilizer, herbicide or pesticide applications and until the product label indicates that the treated area is safe to enter.

Mess Factor:

Low. Routine mowing may create clippings, and the lawn will have a brown dormant appearance during winter.

Maintenance Level:

Moderate. Regular mowing, seasonal fertilization, weed prevention and occasional aeration or dethatching may be needed to maintain a dense, polished lawn.

This section covers practical care information for homeowners.

Water Needs:

Low to moderate once established. Water deeply when the grass begins showing signs of wilt rather than watering lightly every day. Tahoma 31 was developed to use water efficiently but still requires irrigation during extended Oklahoma heat and drought.

Soil Tolerance:

Adaptable to many soil types, including Oklahoma clay, when the lawn has proper grading and drainage. Avoid areas that remain consistently wet.

Drought Tolerance:

High. Tahoma 31 maintains strong turf quality under limited water and recovers well after drought stress.

Deer Resistance:

N/A

Pest/Disease Resistance:

Good. Tahoma 31 has resistance similar to other improved Bermuda varieties, although spring dead spot, thatch and other turf issues may occur when the lawn is overfertilized, overwatered or poorly maintained.
