Hesperaloe parviflora, commonly called Red Yucca, isn't a true yucca but shares its tough, drought-tolerant nature. It forms a tidy clump of slender, arching, blue-green leaves with thread-like filaments along the edges. From late spring through summer, tall flower stalks emerge, topped with tubular coral-red to salmon-pink blooms that attract hummingbirds. Growing 2 to 3 feet tall (with bloom stalks reaching up to 5 feet), Red Yucca is ideal for xeriscapes, modern gardens, and erosion control on slopes.
